Jersey Library is inviting groups, clubs, event organisers and evening class providers to consider their meeting spaces for evening sessions from March, when they begin a 12-month trial of extended opening hours.

The new hours will provide Islanders with over 13 hours per week of additional access to the Library’s resources and facilities, presenting an opportunity for the community to use and enjoy this great public facility in the evenings.

Chief Librarian, Ed Jewell, explained: “We’ve been particularly inspired by Australia’s ‘Libraries After Dark’ initiative, where libraries provide a home for everything from yoga and pilates classes to food and drink tasting events.

"Whilst the Library will always have the provision of books and resources, study and reading spaces at its heart, our diverse building spaces also lends itself to a wide range of activities. We’re keen to speak to anyone who would be interested in working with us to help create a dynamic evening offer for the Library, supporting our work to inspire lifelong learning, culture, enterprise and health & wellbeing throughout our community.”

The Library, in Halkett Place, has two community meeting rooms which can each seat up to 35 people, as well as open spaces that can be used for anything from pop-up film events to opera performances.

From 2 March the Library’s opening hours will be as follows:
  • Monday: 9:30am – 9pm
  • Tuesday – Thursday: 9am – 9pm
  • Friday – Saturday: 9am – 5:30pm
