Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Get involved

The Duke of Edinburgh Award programmes are open to 14 to 24 year olds. The Award is delivered in Jersey's schools and youth organisations by Directly Licensed Centres.

Choosing the right award

You can complete an award in the bronze, silver and gold categories.

To achieve the award, you'll need to complete a personal programme of activities in four sections (or five if you're going for the gold award):

  • volunteering: helping people or the community
  • physical activity: getting fitter
  • developing skills
  • going on an expedition
  • taking part in a residential activity (gold award only)

There's a lot of choice, so you can tailor your programme to your individual interests.

You'll pick up new experiences, friends and talents that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Your commitment

It usually takes at least six months to complete your bronze programme.

It will take you at least six months for silver, if you have already achieved your bronze, or 12 months if you have jumped straight into silver.

For gold, you'll need to do your programme for at least 12 months if you've got your silver award, or 18 months if you've started at gold level without doing silver (even if you've done bronze).

You'll need to commit at least an hour a week.
