Probable Norovirus outbreak at the hospital

21 November 2012

Bartlett Ward at the General Hospital is currently closed to admissions and visiting has been restricted to contain a probable outbreak of Norovirus.

Several patients are currently affected.

Access to Bartlett Ward

Staff movement has been restricted, and only essential staff have access to the affected ward.

Clinical management of the patients who are currently on Bartlett Ward will not be compromised while this probable Norovirus outbreak is being managed.

The situation will be reviewed by senior hospital managers on a daily basis.

Other areas of the hospital remain unaffected.

Enhanced cleaning has started and this will be done on a regular basis.

If you have these symptoms, do not visit the hospital

Members of the public are asked not to visit the hospital if they have symptoms such as:

  • diarrhoea (with or without nausea or vomiting)
  • abdominal pain
  • fever

If you develop these symptoms, please contact your GP.

Prevent the spread of the virus by hand washing

Islanders are reminded that the single most effective way to prevent any probable spread of Norovirus is with thorough hand washing, using soap and water.
