Roof fire in St John

30 January 2012

The roofs of 2 properties in La Rue De La Croix, St John, were destroyed on Saturday night after a loft space fire spread between the houses. The residents were alerted by a fire alarm and were unharmed.

2 fire engines were sent to the properties, on arrival the crews could see flames coming through the roof slates. The fire had rapidly developed and soon spread into the neighbouring property. Crews wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire from various locations and from above using the aerial ladder platform.

Honorary and States Police officers assisted during the incident. The cause of the blaze is now under investigation.

Watch Commander Ryan Hall said the safe evacuation of the property highlighted the importance of working smoke alarms.
