Traffic delays due to Mount Bingham closure

17 September 2013

Transport and Technical Services (TTS) is advising that due to the temporary closure of the road at Mount Bingham for public safety reasons, there are traffic delays in busy times coming in to town from both east and west.

Due to a substantial rock fall on Sunday, Mount Bingham is currently closed to all through traffic. In the interests of safety, the road will remain closed until the extent of the unstable rock has been assessed and any work has been carried out to ensure the area remains safe.

Traffic delays on adjacent roads, especially on the approaches to the tunnel from both east and west directions are therefore inevitable, particularly during morning and evening rush hours. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible and to leave more time for their journeys through the south of St Helier.

TTS is advising the parish and working with them to stabilise the rock face in order to reopen the road as soon as possible.

As a result of this unforeseen event, the planned construction works at the junction of La Route du Fort with St Clements Road has been postponed.
