Jersey on shortlist for Guernsey waste contract

09 October 2015

Transport and Technical Services (TTS) is one of the five operators or intermediaries shortlisted to tender for the transfer and treatment of Guernsey waste.

Since the States of Guernsey started the process in 2013, TTS has been an active participant, and on 1 June 2015 the Department submitted prequalification documentation in response to the official start of the tendering process.

TTS will be working on providing the information required in the tender over the coming weeks and will submit a tender before the end of November. The proposals and prices will have to include transport from a new Guernsey waste transfer station at Longue Hougue and the subsequent treatment at an energy recovery facility, starting in 2018.

The Energy from Waste plant at La Collette currently has sufficient capacity to deal with the expected 23,000 tonnes of Guernsey waste but, ultimately, it will be up to the States of Jersey to decide whether they agree to the import of Guernsey waste for energy recovery.

Minister for Transport and Technical Services, Deputy Eddie Noel, said “It is stipulated by Guernsey’s tendering process that I cannot talk about the details of the tender; however, we can say that TTS is keen to work with Guernsey and we will submit a tender which will be beneficial both for Jersey and for Guernsey.”
