Young singers sought for workshop

05 November 2019

Conductor Ula Weber
An internationally-renowned conductor is inviting young people aged 9 to 18 to try singing at a Youth Singing Weekend organised by Jersey Music Service (JMS).

Ula Weber, a conductor and former primary school teacher, will be leading the event this weekend (9 and 10 November) at Le Rocquier School. The workshops will run from 9.30am to 5.00pm and are open to all – no previous singing experience is required.

The workshop is part of a new initiative to get more young people in Jersey singing. As part of the scheme, JMS plan to run three weekend workshops a year, each led by a guest conductor.

Ula Weber, who will be conducting this weekend, said: “Singing is a wonderful activity – it releases chemicals that make us feel happy. It can also provide a sense of wellbeing and community, which is especially important for young people.

“I’ve always wanted to visit Jersey, and I’m excited to help set up a brand-new youth choir. I can’t wait to meet the young people and have fun making music together.”

Gina McLinton, Music Development Partner and Senior Manager at the Jersey Music Service, said: “We’re thrilled that Ula will be joining us to launch this new initiative. She has plenty of expertise in working with young people and brings a unique blend of energy and pace.”

Tickets for the workshop cost £25, and applications are open until midnight on Wednesday 6 November. To register, visit www.jms.je.
