There's only 1 Emergency Department in Jersey.

It's located on the Parade, opposite the gardens.

The entrance is at the front of the hospital, to the left of the main hospital entrance.

If you need an ambulance call 999 (the emergency phone number in Jersey). You can also dial 112 which is the equivalent for the EU.

What the Emergency Department does

The Emergency Department assesses and treats patients with serious injuries or illnesses.

When you arrive you'll be assessed by a nurse. You may have to wait before you're seen by a doctor. The doctor at the Emergency Department sees people according to their clinical needs, not the time they arrive.

How long you wait will depend on:

  • how busy the department is
  • how serious other patients' conditions are
  • whether your condition will get worse if left

The Emergency Department is not an alternative to your GP

You shouldn't go to the Emergency Department as an alternative to visiting your GP.

If you need to see your GP out of hours, they'll either have out of hours cover or be part of the co-op out-of-hours GP service.
