Supporting multi-agency working
Jersey's Children First will:
- improve your experience of multi-agency work by bringing consistency via shared language, processes and assessment tools across agencies.
- bring clarity to the children’s workforce as it sets out a structure for identifying and understanding children and young people's needs/risks and for assessing and planning to achieve desired outcomes.
- streamline planning, assessment and decision making, which will benefit children, young people and families by making things less daunting and confusing, and also the practitioners working with them.
- set out roles and responsibilities within the children’s workforce and notes that managers are responsible for ensuring their practitioners attend relevant training and have time to undertake the key components of the approach.
Training
Jersey's Children First is a Jersey-specific practice framework that joins together current good practice to continuously improve the quality and value of our work with children, young people and families.
A multi-agency training programme has been developed for everyone who has contact with children and families in Jersey. This includes people who work for the Government of Jersey, parishes and voluntary and community sectors.
The training is divided into a core offer, which can be tailored to suit the individual practitioner's role and responsibilities, and specialist courses for those likely to be involved in direct work with children and families, or with multi-agency processes.
The training was launched with the Children's Plan in September 2018. Engagement and communication activity is ongoing and there has been an enthusiastically positive response so far.
Jersey's Children First training at Level 1 and Level 2 has now been refreshed and updated and is now available online for the first time through Virtual College. Levels 3 and 4 are currently being updated and will remain as face to face training.
