Keystage 1
Recycling centre at Bellozanne
We wouldn't recommend showing younger students around the whole Bellozanne site but if you are teaching a group about recycling, we can arrange a tour of the recycling centre where you can also bring your recycling and deposit it in the recycling banks.
The group will learn where the recycling centre is, what materials are collected for recycling and see the trucks and diggers in action.
As with all our tours, we can tailor the visit to fit with your lessons and activities.
The tour is outdoors so it not advisable in wet weather. A risk assessment will be provided in advance. Students are requested to dress appropriately and no open toed or high heeled footwear is permitted.
Your local bring bank
You might prefer to stay closer to school and raise awareness of the local recycling facilities.
We can meet you at your nearest bring bank (or start the session with a talk in class) where you can recycle household items such as:
- newspapers
- magazines
- drink cans
- food tins
- plastic bottles
We will talk to the group about what can and can't go in to the recycling bins and what else can be done to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Keystage 2 onwards
Energy from Waste Plant, La Collette
We are restricted to the number of students we can show around our Energy from Waste Plant at La Collette. Preference is given to secondary school students studying relevant subjects and eco-club members.
This tour will show students what happens to the rubbish the Island throws away and the challenges we face in managing the Island's waste.
Some of the tour is outdoors and is not advisable for students with a sensitivity to heights. Students are requested to dress appropriately (trousers must be worn for this visit) and no open toed or high heeled footwear is permitted. A risk assessment will be provided in advance.
Green waste recycling, La Collette
This tour provides an opportunity for students to walk through the different stages of our composting process which receives approximately 12,000 tonnes of green (garden) waste each year.
The tour is outdoors and is not advisable in wet weather. Students are requested to dress appropriately and no open toed or high heeled footwear is permitted. A risk assessment will be provided in advance.
This tour can be arranged throughout the year but tours are limited as we are restricted to the number of students we can show around this site.
