You cannot recycle food waste

​Unless you are home composting, dispose of food waste with your general household waste.

Home composting kits are available from most large garden centres.

How you can reduce or reuse food waste

• get the Olio food app. The app connects people with local business so unused and leftover food can be donated and redistributed to those that can use it
• the Love Food Hate Waste campaign website has lots of good ideas about how to avoid food waste
  

Good to know

• ​bokashi bins and wormeries are smaller alternatives to large compost bins
• do not compost harmful plants (Japanese knotweed, bracken, broad and curly leaf dock, ragwort, rhododendron, hemlock, and yew). They must be disposed of using a different container at La Collette as they must be incinerated
