Blue Fish Campaign: protecting streams, ponds and reservoirs

About the Blue Fish Campaign

The Blue Fish Campaign raises awareness of potentially polluting substances and their impact on our Island's water environment.

Surface water road drains are designed to remove rain water from roofs, footpaths and roads. They must not be used to dispose of litter or waste chemicals like paints, detergents or oils. We identify these drains by putting a blue fish icon next to them.

Fish stencils are available free from the Department of the Environment.

Businesses

Create a pollution prevention action plan which will enable you to consider and reduce the pollution risks on your site. It will also help you to think about how to reduce, reuse, recycle and dispose of waste appropriately on your site.

Eco active businesses who store or transport potentially polluting substances are required to develop a pollution prevention plan as part of the requirements to join the eco active business network.

Schools

The Blue Fish Campaign is a fun and educational project. It'll provide students with useful information about the Island's water environment and how they can help protect it.

The campaign is part of eco actives work with schools. It's a whole school project that can be used in the water topic within the eco schools programme.

Learn more about the eco schools programme on eco schools UK.

A curriculum based teacher’s tool has been developed to provide teachers with all the resources they need to incorporate pollution prevention into their lessons.
