About the consultation
This consultation seeks your views on proposed legislative changes which, collectively, aim to ensure that Jersey's competition framework continues to support business innovation and growth, keeps prices down, and looks after the interests of consumers.
The
Competition (Jersey) Law 2005 was introduced to promote competition in the supply of goods and services in the Island.
The Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority (JCRA) is responsible for enforcing the competition rules to ensure that businesses compete fairly and markets work well for consumers.
Reviews and recommendations
The proposals outlined in this consultation take into account recommendations from 3 past reviews:
- 2015: Oxera reviewed Jersey’s regulatory and competition framework and identified several areas for which specific recommendations were made
- 2015 and 2016: the JCRA consulted on a number of amendments to the merger control regime and issued several recommendations
- 2018: Kassie Smith KC conducted an independent review of the JCRA and made a number of recommendations
