About the consultation
The current Mental Health Law for Jersey was introduced in 1969. Nearly 50 years later, the law doesn't reflect current standards for diagnosing and treating people with mental health problems and conditions. These are referred to in the current law as “mental disorders.”
A new draft law has been developed in consultation with medical and legal experts, as well as user groups. This law will better reflect modern standards and adapt to future developments.
