About the consultation
As part of the Strong Start Delivery Plan, the Transport section of Infrastructure, Housing and Environment (IHE) is looking to introduce a pilot contra-flow cycle lane heading towards town on Don Road and Georgetown Road as well as a with-flow cycle lane travelling out of town heading east.
The vehicle carriageway will be reduced from two lanes to one to allow sufficient space for the cycle lanes.
The pilot scheme involves:
- a mandatory contra-flow lane shown as a solid white line with bollard protection
- a with-flow lane shown as a dashed white line which will allow vehicles to access driveways and lanes
- closure of the slip lane in front of Howard Davis Park main gates
The aim of this pilot scheme is to benefit active travel and make walking and cycling safer, more convenient and reliable as well as provide a more direct route into town and access to the schools.
