Financial Services Ombudsman eligibility for small charities

About the consultation

Under the relevant laws, consumers and microenterprises will be eligible to refer complaints to the Channel Islands Financial Ombudsman (‘the Financial Ombudsman’) once it is open. The Financial Ombudsman wants to know whether you agree that small charities should also be eligible.

This follows on from earlier consultations on this topic by the Jersey Economic Development Department (the Jersey Department) and the Guernsey  Commerce & Employment Department  (the Guernsey Department).   

The consultation paper explains:

• the role of the Financial Ombudsman
• the existing provisions about who will be able to refer a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman  
• the questions covered by this consultation

The Channel Islands Financial Ombudsman is the joint operation of the statutory bodies established by the Financial Services Ombudsman (Jersey) Law 2014 and the Financial Services Ombudsman (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law 2014. The Financial Ombudsman is independent of the States.
