About the consultation

The Planning and Environment Minister is reviewing what people can do to their homes and businesses without applying for planning permission. This is known as ‘permitted development’.

Help small businesses

Independent reviews of the development control process recommended extending permitted development rights to make the planning process more efficient.

The Minister wants to:

  • extend permitted development rights to help small businesses and home owners
  • reduce regulation
  • foster economic growth

Wide range of views

This the first set of proposed changes, more will follow in due course. This consultation is asking for a wider range of views on changes to three sets of orders. The Minister will consider feedback before agreeing the final changes later this year.
