About the consultation
In May 2023 the Jersey Employment Forum produced a report on the operation of zero hour contracts, together with a review of employment protections more widely. One issue that emerged from the report was a concern that the levels of compensation able to be awarded by the Jersey Employment Tribunal for breaches of the Employment and Discrimination Laws were out of date and potentially inadequate.
The Minister for Social Security accepted the Forum’s recommendation that there should be a review of the current awards system and the levels of compensation currently available and directed the Forum to consult accordingly. The Forum has now published a public-facing background paper, together with options for change. The Forum welcomes views on the contents of the paper, which are not exhaustive but are designed to illustrate and encourage respondents to consider possible ways forward.
