Why we need a review
The Social Security review will help us plan what will happen to Jersey’s Social Security scheme over the next 30 years.
People are now living much longer and healthier lives, meaning that more of us enjoy active lives into our 80s and 90s.
Although this a great achievement, it means we face new challenges. One of these challenges is making sure we have enough income and savings to look after ourselves after we have stopped working.
What we did in 2016
The first part of the review focused on income in retirement.
We wanted to understand how the Social Security pension fits in with other ways that people save for retirement.
We also wanted to understand how people felt the Social Security scheme should change to cope with the financial challenges it may face in the future due to people living longer.
