Why we need a review
The Social Security review will help us to plan what will happen to Jersey’s Social Security scheme over the next 30 years.
People are now living much longer and healthier lives, meaning that more of us enjoy active lives into our 80s and 90s.
Although this a great achievement, it means we face new challenges. One of these challenges is making sure we have enough income and savings to look after ourselves after we have stopped working.
What we did in 2017
The second part of the review looked at the way the scheme protects us during our working lives and how these needs have changed in the last few decades. We focused on benefits paid through Social Security contributions. We call these contributory benefits.
This review specifically looked at contributory benefits that help to protect you when:
- you are starting a family
- your partner dies
