The approved code of practice (ACoP), 'Work with Ionising Radiation', applies to all workplaces where ionising radiation is used, this includes dental practices, veterinary surgeries, airports and construction sites.
The ACoP covers safety requirements in the use of radioactive substances, sealed sources and radiation generators, including all the applications of X-rays, in any work activity in Jersey. It sets out the arrangements that should be put in place to ensure that the doses of ionising radiation arising from activities are maintained at a level where the risk to individuals is acceptably low.
Any employer intending to work with ionising radiation for the first time, or when significant changes to the use of ionising radiation are planned, must notify the Health and Safety Inspectorate at least twenty-eight days before such work is initiated or before planned changes are implemented.
