Health and Social Services does not hold this information as there is no central point of referral for patients with eating disorders. For further details, please see the previous responses to similar requests.

Please note that in the above responses, figures include admissions where an eating disorder is the primary or secondary diagnosis. This means that the patient was recorded as having an eating disorder but it may not have been the reason for their admission.

Between 1 July 2011 and 31 October 2016, there were a total of 22 admissions to the Jersey General Hospital with a primary diagnosis of an eating disorder. A further breakdown will not be provided as this could lead to the identification of individuals and is exempt under Article 25 of the Freedom of Information Law.

The Health and Social Services Department provides a number of services for people with eating disorders dependent on their needs and clinical presentation. Patients are usually referred by their GP and may be referred to multiple departments such as the Dieticians or the Eating Disorders Service (part of Adult Mental Health Services) for adults. Those under 18 may be referred to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) or the Paediatric Consultants.

Treatment and care can be provided in the community or as an inpatient dependent on the assessed needs.

This information is not held. Deaths in Jersey are recorded by the Office of the Superintendent Registrar but although it may have been a contributory factor, an eating disorder would not be recorded as the cause of death.

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2005.
(2) Information is absolutely exempt information if –
(a) it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is not the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2005; and
(b) its supply to a member of the public would contravene any of the data protection principles, as defined in that Law.
