States members are currently paid £46,600.00 per annum. As defined in Article 44 of the States of Jersey Law 2005 (as amended), all States members receive the same remuneration irrespective of the category of member or the position they hold. The breakdown of States members pay over the past five years is as follows:

In 2016, the States negotiated a central procurement contract for mobile phones and where it is deemed necessary a department may request a States member to be added to the corporate contract, for example if a States member is performing a Ministerial or Scrutiny role. Members can either pay for their own devices or have use of a departmental funded mobile phone. The States will pay the monthly SIM tariff and in some instances will cover the cost of additional calls. In addition, States members can be provided, on request, with software for their mobile devices which will allow them to access their email, calendar and contacts from their mobile devices. The cost of these licences is covered by the States of Jersey. Prior to the move to a corporate contract, some States members, where deemed necessary, were provided with Blackberries which were paid for by the States of Jersey.
States members who perform Ministerial or Scrutiny functions may have access to landlines in the particular departments in which they serve to enable them to perform their duties. In addition, landlines are provided for States members in the States Assembly Building as part of the provision of member’s facilities.
We are unable to provide a list of the top ten spenders for phone bills over the past three years as information on the use of some mobile phones and landlines by specific members is not held, particularly in relation to the provision of phones in the States member’s services area of the States Assembly building.
