Please provide the number of complaints made against health services staff (both practicing medical staff, for example doctors, nurses and administrative staff such as reception desk) over the past decade, broken down by year, department (for example ENT, oncology, GP, and so on) and the nature of the complaint (such as bad language, bad practice and so on).
Response
Please see the requested information in the three attachments below:
Complaints by year and department
Complaints by year and nature
Complaints by department and nature
We use an electronic system in Health and Social Services (HSSD) called DATIX, which captures and stores all of the information we have on complaints.
Due to the way in which the system works it is not possible without going into each complaint manually to present the data in a chronological way ie to get all of the data aligned, year, department and nature of the complaint. The data therefore is shown separately.
