Enterprise Week speech (FOI)

During his speech at the launch of Enterprise Week, the Chief Minister said:

"We as an island, and as an economy, thrive on globalisation. We must stand up and fly the flag for the benefit of globalisation, our financial services centre, supporting globalisation, is raising millions of people out of poverty, and that is something that I am proud of, and I think it's something that we as a community should be proud of as well."

Please kindly provide:

The statistics from which the Chief Minister was quoting when he said that, "Our [Jersey's] financial services centre, supporting globalisation, is raising millions of people out of poverty."

All government research / reports / information containing figures of how many people Jersey has specifically 'raised out of poverty' over the past decade (or as recent as is available).

The States of Jersey government's definition of what 'raising out of poverty' constitutes.

The amount of people that the States of Jersey believes that the Island as a whole has 'raised out of poverty' over the past decade, broken down by year.

The amount of people that Jersey's "financial services centre", as Senator Gorst states, has 'raised out of poverty' over the past decade, broken down by year.

The States of Jersey does not hold any relevant records.

The Chief Minister’s speech referred to a view that globalisation and foreign direct investment can have a positive influence on lifting people out of poverty around the world.

As an example, Jersey Finance commissioned an independent report on how international finance centres, and Jersey in particular, can play a fundamental role in helping Africa to fulfil its economic potential. You can read this report on the Jersey Finance website.
