Request

I work for a charity and we would like to find out how many Islanders have been diagnosed with each of the following conditions. We would like numbers by individual condition please.

  • Parkinson's Disease
  • Stroke
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Epilepsy
  • Osteo Arthritis
  • Cancer
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Dystonia
  • Diabetes
  • Chrons Disease
  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Autism
  • Alzheimers
  • Dementia

Response

This information is not held by the public authority.

Jersey does not have a central disease register to identify total numbers of residents who have been diagnosed with the listed conditions.

Jersey General Hospital will code a primary diagnosis for patients being admitted for a hospital inpatient stay. In some instances, a secondary diagnosis will be coded which may not directly relate to the inpatient stay. An example would be diabetes.

Our response to the request would only count patients who have had an inpatient episode and not provide a population level view. This data would be misleading and would not provide a realistic view of prevalence in Jersey.

The link below may be of interest and relates to a previous FOI regarding stroke admissions.
