Request

Please kindly provide a full list of primary and secondary schools in Jersey which provide Religious Education (RE) lessons. For each school, please provide the number of hours of RE each school (primary and secondary) in Jersey teach to each year group - from Reception to Year 11.

Response

The Education (Jersey) Law 1999 states that a pupil of compulsory school age in a provided school shall receive religious education (RE) in accordance with a syllabus approved by the Minister of Education after consultation with the Religious Education Advisory Council (REAC).

The Jersey Curriculum for Religious Education can be found at:

Jersey Curriculum for Religious Education

In Reception to Year 9, all students receive RE lessons for the average time shown in the tables below. In Years 10 and 11 the figures represent the average lesson time taught to students who chose RE as a GCSE subject.

Some examples of RE teaching that is not contained within the time displayed in the tables below include special assemblies, other humanities and cultural activities, festival celebrations, visiting speakers, attending church services and collective worship.
