Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by States of Jersey and published on 20 November 2017.

Request

In the last seven years ie 2010 to 2017 please advise year by year the numbers and the total of share transfer residential apartments that have been purchased by non-residents or trusts, companies or any other non-Jersey entity as investments. How many of these apartments are now let to locally qualified residents? and how many to licensed residents?

Response

Information in respect of the years 2010 to 2014 and the period from 1 January to 27 November 2015 was provided in response to a previous Freedom of Information request published on 10 December 2015.

Property purchases (FOI)

In that response it was explained that the only source of information available to the public authority is the documentation supplied to and recorded by the Taxes Office when Land Transaction Tax (LTT) is paid on a share transfer transaction which confers a right to occupy property.

The table is updated for the purpose of this request below:

Year Number of transactions*
201014
201113
201222
201311
20146
20158
20167
2017 (to 15 November 17)11
Total92

*This column represents the combined total number of transactions in respect of individuals, companies, trusts and any other entity identified by virtue of a non-Jersey address recorded on the LTT statement.

From the data held it is not possible to confirm:-

1) that the residential apartments were purchased as an investment

2) how many of these share transfer apartments are now let to locally qualified residents; or

3) how many of these share transfer apartments are now let to licensed residents
