Complaints against teachers (FOI)

Complaints against teachers (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by States of Jersey and published on 28 November 2017.

Request

How many complaints have been made against teachers in Jersey schools in the past three years?

Could you explain what the nature of the complaints are and how they were dealt with.

Response

28 complaints have been made. Of which:

  • <5 bullying and harassment
  • 16 disciplinary
  • <5 grievance
  • <5 capability
  • <5 fraud
  • <5 safeguarding

Of the 16 disciplinary cases:

  • <5 no action
  • <5 informal
  • <5 warnings
  • <5 resigned
  • <5 dismissal

Due to the small numbers of individuals cited in the figures above, Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied to this request and therefore for categories where number of complaints is less than five the information has been represented as <5.

Exemption applied

(2) Information is absolutely exempt information if –

(a) it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is not the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2005; and

(b) its supply to a member of the public would contravene any of the data protection principles, as defined in that Law.
