How much are the RNLI giving the Fire Service to have their personnel manning the lifeboat?
What did it cost the fire service to send their personnel for training on the lifeboat and how many personnel are now trained?
Where was the training, other than in Jersey, and how long did it take?
Response
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) are not paying the Fire and Rescue Service for manning the lifeboat because the Fire and Rescue Service have a duty under the Fire and Rescue (Jersey) Law 2011 to utilise firefighters for ‘locating or rescuing people and protecting them from serious harm in the event of any incident occurring within three nautical miles of the coasts of Jersey.’ The use of the lifeboat enables the Fire Service to discharge this duty more effectively and safely.
The total cost to the Fire and Rescue Service, to date, for the training of nine fire officers to crew the Inshore Lifeboat is £7,808. Other than in Jersey, training was undertaken in Poole for two days.
