Response

A

The States of Jersey Police recently took possession of a state of the art, purpose built police station which has extensive CCTV coverage both internally and externally. The States of Jersey Police CCTV policy is currently in draft form and in the process of ratification by the Senior Management team and is therefore exempt from release under Article 35 (Formulation and development of policies) of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011. The policy follows all the guidelines issued by the UK College of Policing.

B to F

The information published in Freedom of Information requests is made available to all. The States of Jersey Police will neither confirm or deny the capabilities of the current CCTV system on the police estate.

Criminal gangs whose main objective is to identify any vulnerabilities within the police arena would find this information of benefit to them. Whilst there is a call for openness and transparency with regard to the security of police buildings, to disclose information which would undermine any current security arrangements and be of benefit to criminals would not be in the public interest. Undoubtedly confirmation or denial that any information is or isn’t held would undermine the effective delivery of operational law enforcement.

The public expect police forces and other law enforcement agencies, to use all powers and tactics available to prevent and detect crime or disorder and maintain public safety.

G

No

H

The States of Jersey Police Estate Manager is responsible for physical security and CCTV maintenance.

Exemption applied

Article 35: Formulation and development of policies
