Cystic Fibrosis diagnosis (FOI)

Cystic Fibrosis diagnosis (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by States of Jersey and published on 09 March 2018.

Request

A

How many people who live in Jersey have been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis?

B

How many children who live in Jersey have been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis?

C

How many adults who live in Jersey have been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis?

Response

A

The Health and Social Services department (HSSD) is unable to provide diagnosis data for the whole Island. We can only see the number of patients admitted (as an inpatient) to Jersey General Hospital (or Samares ward at Overdale) who are coded to have the condition.

There were a total of seven patients who had a diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis admitted as inpatients from 2013 to 2017.

B and C

Due to the small numbers of those living with Cystic Fibrosis, who were admitted as an inpatient within this timeframe, Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied in order to protect the privacy of individuals. Therefore, HSSD is unable to present the figures broken down by adults and children / young people.

The management of care for all Cystic Fibrosis patients is coordinated within UK specialist Centres. Patients would only present at Jersey General Hospital if they were acutely unwell.

Exemption applied

Article 25 Personal information

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2005.

(2) Information is absolutely exempt information if –

(a) it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is not the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2005; and

(b) its supply to a member of the public would contravene any of the data protection principles, as defined in that Law.
