Please supply information with regards to the following;

A

How many crimes were reported in Jersey between January 2017 and January 2018.

B

How many cases were taken to Court and what Court.

C

How many staff were in employment by the States of Jersey Police between January 2017 and January 2018 and in what capacities.

D

What information is recorded by officers responding to crime reports.

E

What information relating to performance is gathered for States of Jersey Police employees.

F

How many reported crimes lead to arrests.

G

How many arrests lead to charges.

H

How many charges lead to conviction.

All of the above is for the period January 2017 to January 2018.

A to C

The information requested will be published in less than 12 weeks within the States of Jersey Police annual report. This will be available on the States of Jersey Police web site and Article 36 (Intended for Future Publication) of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 is therefore applied.

D and E

Questions D and E are requesting details of how processes are completed within the States of Jersey Police, not requesting ‘Information Held’ by them. Whilst officers will record details of any alleged crime and details of those reporting it or suspected of committing it, a definitive list cannot be given as it is dependent on the specific circumstances of the crime.

Officers and civilian staff are appraised on their year’s work and performance by their line managers. All aspects of their duties are considered.

F to H

To answer these questions would require a physical examination and review of each and every crime recorded by the States of Jersey Police to see what action was taken for each offence. The time required to complete this would be greater that the time allowed to complete freedom of information requests.

Conviction detail for most offences will be published in the 2017 annual report.

Exemptions applied

Article 16 A scheduled public authority may refuse to supply information if cost excessive

(1) A scheduled public authority that has been requested to supply information may refuse to supply the information if it estimates that the cost of doing so would exceed an amount determined in the manner prescribed by Regulations.

Article 36 Information intended for future publication

(1) Information is qualified exempt information if, at the time when the request for the information is made, the information is being held by a public authority with a view to its being published within 12 weeks of the date of the request.
