Could you please tell me what criteria the DVS use to issue company / red taxi plates and if more are likely to be issued to companies / booking dispatching entities that meet such criteria.
Response
The Inspector of Motor Traffic, on behalf of the Minister for Infrastructure, will grant Licences as appropriate to meet the requirements of the Motor Traffic (Jersey) Law 1953 Article 9 (6), in order to satisfy demand.
Red Taxi Plates are issued by DVS with the following conditions for use.
80% of work must be pre booked
all drivers using the vehicle must be employed by the company
the plate is solely for the use of the licence holder
the company must be incorporated
the vehicle must be owned by and registered to the company
The transition to a single tier system is currently being progressed and the issuing of Red Taxi Plates will continue during this period in order to meet the requirements as stated above.
Applications must be submitted in writing to DVS supported by appropriate justification from the company.
