Do the traffic authorities have a local equivalent of the UK's Traffic Signs Manual that guides their decisions on the placement of traffic signs? If so, may I be directed to it?

If there is no Jersey equivalent, what rules or guidance do the traffic authorities follow when placing traffic signs?

If the traffic authorities follow general UK guidance, under what circumstances would they deviate from that guidance?

The Government of Jersey do not have a local equivalent.

There is no legal obligation to apply UK codes of practice, however the Government of Jersey does follow the UK guidance as best practice where applicable. The Traffic Signs (Jersey) Order 1968 provides some guidance on the placing of traffic signs. Additionally Article 72 (1) and (2) of the Road Traffic Law (Jersey) 1956 authorises the Minister to place signs on adjacent third party land.

The principles of the UK guidance are applied as far as reasonably practicable, however given the narrow roads, sharp bends and configuration of Jersey’s roads, general compliance is not possible.
