I am writing to you to request an up-to-date list of all Taxi and Private Hire Operators currently licensed by the Island authority.

Please include the following information:

Business landline telephone number for bookings. Please state if app-based only and no telephone number is available for bookings

Business email address for booking requests

Number of vehicles / drivers registered to each operator

The name of the licensee is exempt under Article 25 (Personal Information) of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011.

An operator licence is not required to run a taxi company. However, Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS) are currently reviewing various aspects of the taxi licencing procedure and consideration is being given to the introduction of a Taxi Company Operator Licencing scheme in the future.

The information you have requested is exempt under Article 33 (Commercial Interests) of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 as this information is commercially sensitive.

We believe that disclosure of the information would likely prejudice or harm the commercial interests of taxi companies and that this prejudice outweighs the public interest in favour of disclosure.

Article 25 Personal information

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018.

(2) Information is absolutely exempt information if –

(a) it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is not the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018; and

(b) its supply to a member of the public would contravene any of the data protection principles, as defined in that Law.

Article 23 Information accessible to applicant by other means

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it is reasonably available to the

Applicant, otherwise than under this Law, whether or not free of charge.

(2) A scheduled public authority that refuses an application for information on this ground must make reasonable efforts to inform the applicant where the applicant may obtain the information.

Article 33 Commercial interests

(3) Information is qualified exempt information if –

(4) (a) it constitutes a trade secret; or

(5) (b) its disclosure would, or would be likely to, prejudice the commercial interests of a person

(6) (including the scheduled public authority holding the information).
