There has been a recent focus on becoming more Eco-friendly in Jersey. There has also seemingly been more of a news coverage on recycling and plastic in the UK for example 'The War against plastic' on the BBC.

I want to know out of all of the sorted recycling that Jersey people and companies send to be recycled in Jersey, how much (%) of it is actually recycled and where is it sent to be recycled?

Also, have you checked that wherever it is sent for recycling, actually does recycle it and that it doesn't end up in landfill.

Guidelines regarding recycling unwanted items can be located on www.gov.je using the links below. These pages are to provide customers with information and guidance about what materials Grown Housing and Environment (GHE) can currently recycle. The acceptance criteria is strict to try to assist customers so that GHE only receive materials that we can recycle. 100% of the recyclable materials we receive for recycling are recycled.

Our Solid Waste section ensure that we work with recycling partners who process the recyclables safely and sustainably and that we know how the materials are processed.

However, the information on the website only provides figures up to 2017 and does not include information regarding gas cylinders and inert material, therefore, this information is provided below.

The gas cylinders are exported to a specialist in the UK where the cylinders are safely decommissioned and recycled.

Recyclable inert material is received by our partner, AAL Recycling Ltd, who processes it to create secondary recycled aggregate for use in the local building industry.

Please note that the website information provides a summary of island wide recycling. The data presented is a total of the tonnage of material we receive for recycling as well as the tonnage of material reported to us as being received for recycling by third parties who are not contracted to us. We do not hold the information relating to the onward recycling process for the third parties.
