Request
How many formal complaints relating to defective rented properties were made to Environmental Health (or its precursors) in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019? Please divide results into complaints for each of the prescribed hazards in Schedule 1 of the Public Health and Safety (Rented Dwellings – Minimum Standards and Prescribed Hazards) (Jersey) Order 2018 where possible (at least since that Order has been in force).
Response
The number of complaints received year by year since 2015 are as follows:
2019 – 229 complaints to 3 December 2019
2018 – 218
2017 – 162
2016 – 156
2015 – 134
The definition of minimum standards and prescribed hazards did not exist before 1 December 2018. The complaints received are also usually generic and it is therefore not possible to break down the response into the prescribed hazards.
On inspection it is often the case that more than one of the prescribed hazards detailed in Schedule 1 of the Public Health and Safety (Rented Dwellings – Minimum Standards and Prescribed Hazards) (Jersey) Order 2018 is present.
