Request
A
Can you please confirm what the final cost of Nightingale Hospital wing in Jersey has been to the taxpayer?
B
Can you clarify how much was spent on off island consultants and give a breakdown of the reported £14M budget and if we actually remained within this budget?
C
Is the structure to remain Jersey property or will it be returned when no longer required?
Response
A
Invoices are still being finalised in accordance with the contract and it is therefore not possible to provide the final costs at this stage.
B
Only one off-island contractor has been appointed to date. We have not yet received their invoice. As stated in question A, invoices are still being finalised and it is therefore not possible to provide a final cost as this stage. However, the table below provides a breakdown of the original estimated £14.4 million and the actual monies paid to date, to the end of May 2020.
Construction Costs | Estimated costs 2020 | Actual spend to End May |
Building hire and erection | £1.0m | £0.5m |
Fit out costs | £6.3m | £5.7m |
Medical equipment | £4.8m | £1.2m |
Utility connections and upgrade costs | £1.0m | - |
Contingency | £1.3m | - |
Total | £14.4m | £7.4m |
It is anticipated that the project will remain within the £14.4m budget.
C
The structure is hired and will be returned once it is no longer required. However, there is an option to purchase the structure should the Government or Department wish to exercise it.
