Request

A

As of 1 June 2020, how many members of staff are working beyond retirement age of 65?

B

Does the Government of Jersey have a policy on working beyond retirement age, if so please can you share details of this.

C

Can you advise if their employment will be looked into as part of savings for the recovery post Covid-19.

Response

A

There were 90 members of staff over 65, as at 1 June 2020, excluding zero hours contract workers.

B

Since the introduction on 1 September 2018 of additional legislation in respect of age discrimination, employers are no longer able to apply a default retirement age. Therefore the ‘Working beyond’ retirement age policy was withdrawn at that time.

C

There are no plans to target over 65’s in respect of any initiatives to support economic recovery at this time.
