This request is based on conditions such as MS, Fibromyalgia, ME, chronic pain and fatigue from 2012 to 2019.

The Government of Jersey does not hold the requested information on the prevalence of diagnosis however it is possible to count the number of individuals who have been admitted to hospital with one of the above diagnoses. Between 2012 and 2019, 332 individuals have been admitted to hospital.

There were 4722 hospital admissions between 2012 and 2019.

Data is only available from 2012. There has not been a discernible decline in admissions in the period since then:

Many of the medicines used for these conditions are also used for other conditions as well so it’s not possible to get a figure just for the indications mentioned.

In order to identify how much medication is given out for individuals with these conditions and the associated cost it would require all the relevant patient names and then an interrogation of each patient’s medical record. It is estimated that to review the data held would take in excess of the time allowance applied under the Freedom of Information Regulations (Jersey) 2014.

Article 16 A scheduled public authority may refuse to supply information if cost excessive

(1) A scheduled public authority that has been requested to supply information may refuse to supply the information if it estimates that the cost of doing so would exceed an amount determined in the manner prescribed by Regulations.

Regulation 2 (1) of the Freedom of Information (Costs) (Jersey) Regulations 2014 allows an authority to refuse a request for information where the estimated cost of dealing with the request would exceed the specified amount of the cost limit of £500. This is the estimated cost of one person spending 12.5 working hours in determining whether the department holds the information, locating, retrieving and extracting the information.
