Gender reassignment (FOI)

Are the following operations available through the Jersey Health service in any way: facial feminization surgery and breast augmentation (in reference specifically to trans gender individuals)? If not available in Jersey, are there any routes through which Government funding can be accessed to cover the costs of such operations.

Response

No Gender reassignment surgery is available on Island, this includes facial feminisation and breast augmentation procedures.

An application for funding or part funding for these procedures can be made through the Individual Funding Review process. It is expected that requests for funding would come via the treating Psychology Consultant.

Within the UK National Health Service’s Adult Gender Identity Services access to surgical intervention procedures are by referral only. The referral must be from a Lead Professional from a Specialist Gender Dysphoria Clinic.
