Request

With schools reopening, I would like to know with regard to Secondary Schools:

A

With year group mixing of students across subjects, how are direct contacts of active cases counted?

B

What social distancing is involved in the classroom, and is mask / visor wearing encouraged?

C

What social distancing is involved in break and lunchtimes, and is mask / visor wearing encouraged?

D

How is classroom mixing limited at break / lunchtimes? Has this been confirmed by direct observation to ensure guidelines are being followed?

E

Are school leaving times staggered?

F

If not, is any advice given to students to socially distance while going home or waiting for busses or parental collection?

"As soon as your child leaves the school gates, we strongly advise to continue to follow the gatherings guidance"

G

Are any direct observations of student behaviour, within and on school, actually made to see how much any guidelines are followed?

Response

A to G

Secondary schools each have individual COVID-19 Workplace Safety Plans which they publish on their school websites. Officers from the Department for Children, Young People, Education and Skills have conducted on-site school visits during the school day which has

included observation during a school break time. The purpose of the visits are to support schools with the implementation of the guidelines, strategies, safety plans and risk assessments.

A link to each secondary school website to access their individual plans can be found at the links below:
