Request
Please confirm the number of skin cancer cases diagnosed in the years 2019 and 2020.
Response
The statistics for the number of specimens reported as skin cancer in the stated years are as follows:
Year | Total |
2019 | 1226 |
2020 | 988 |
Please note the same patient may have had one or more diagnosed skin cancers in the same, or in different, year(s), this is not represented as a single entry but instead multiple entries (depending on the number of separate diagnoses).
Data includes all cases coded on the laboratory computer system as ‘skin’ and ‘cancer’.
The above numbers resulting from simple search methodology should be put in a context of the last available detailed analysis included in the Channel Island Cancer Report 2017 and published by Public Health England.
The number of all new cases of malignant skin tumours detected in the report was 424 per year.
It is reasonable to expect some increase of the skin cancer numbers in the following years similar to other geographies – that increase is likely to be mid-high single digit % per year.
More accurate incidence numbers will be available when the updated edition of the Cancer report is published in the future.
