Request
Could you please tell me the number of deaths for 2020 and for 2021(up until 24/2) from both flu and pneumonia on the island? Could you also please tell me the average yearly deaths from both of these causes?
Response
In 2020, 116 deaths were registered in Jersey where Pneumonia is listed as one of the conditions on the Cause of Death.
In 2020, 3 deaths were registered in Jersey where Influenza is listed as one of the conditions on the Cause of Death.
In 2021, (up to 24/2/2021), 27 deaths have been registered where Pneumonia is listed as one of the conditions on the Cause of Death.
In 2021, (up to 24/2/2021) no deaths have been registered with Influenza as a cause of death.
The five-year average number of deaths for the two conditions are:
Underlying cause of death 2015-2019 |

Pneumonia | 20 |
A breakdown of mortality data for 2020 is expected to be available in our annual death’s publication, which is provisionally scheduled to be released in Summer 2021.
