List of GPs and GP surgeries (FOI)

Can you please advise:

A

Advise the current number of GPs

B

Advise whether there is a government target for the number of GPs.

C

Advise how many people in total are registered with a GP / a Practice.

Response

A

There are currently 121 GPs registered on Jersey’s Performers List. The Freedom of Information (FOI) of 24 December 2020 published the nominal roll which shows the number of GPs and trainees currently located in general practice – it is not directly comparable to the number of GPs on the Performers List since some GPs are recorded on the list but do not work in GP practices. In December 2020, 120 GPs were recorded on the Performers List compared to 121 at the current time.

B

Targets are not set for the number of GPs.

C

Data is not held by the Government of Jersey on the number of individuals who are registered with a General Practice. It should be noted that some patients will be registered at more than one practice and so duplicate records may be held for the same person by General Practices. Article 10 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.

Articles applied

Article 10 Obligation of scheduled public authority to confirm or deny holding information

(1) Subject to paragraph (2), if –

(a) a person makes a request for information to a scheduled public authority; and

(b) the authority does not hold the information,

it must inform the applicant accordingly.
