Request

I would like to know the waiting times for a child from referral to getting orthodontic treatment for the hospital dental department.

Response

The waiting times for a child from referral to getting orthodontic treatment at the hospital dental department varies according to clinical need.

For those assessed at a higher need (with a growth dependant factor), from initial assessment appointment to commencement of orthodontic treatment, the average waiting time is six weeks. This allows for preparatory work, for example brace construction post moulds.

For non-clinical urgent patients, the average waiting time can be up to six years and 10 months.
