Request

How many politicians (including their family members) have business interests in the local property market. Who are they and what are the details of their interests.

The information is exempt from disclosure as it is already in the public domain and therefore Article 23 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.

In accordance with Paragraph 7 of Schedule 2 to the Standing Orders of the States of Jersey, elected States Members are obliged to declare any land which they (or their spouse, civil partner, cohabitee or other relevant person) own or jointly own in Jersey (including any land owned on their behalf and land owned by a company or holding company in which the elected member has a registered shareholding).

This obligation does not include declaring any land owned as a Member's principal place of residence.  States Members must also declare any land from which they derive an income. 

Any such declarations are included in Section 7 of the statement of interests made by all elected States Members.  These statements of interests may be accessed on the dedicated webpage for each Member through the Members' Page on the States Assembly website.

Article 23  - Information accessible to applicant by other means

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it is reasonably available to the applicant, otherwise than under this Law, whether or not free of charge.

(2) A scheduled public authority that refuses an application for information on this ground must make reasonable efforts to inform the applicant where the applicant may obtain the information.

This response has been issued on behalf of the States Greffe. The States Greffe is responsible for the information held by (and on behalf of) both itself and the States Assembly.  Neither the States Assembly nor the States Greffe form part of the Government of Jersey and the Government was not involved either in the examination and retrieval of any information required for this response, nor in the drafting of the response itself.
