Response
The Programme to vaccinate all 12 to 13-year-old girls (school Year 8) against HPV started at the beginning of the 2008/2009 school year.
The HPV schedule for 12 to 13-year-old girls (school Year 8) changed from three to two doses in 2014/2015.
In 2019/2020 the HPV immunisation programme was extended with boys aged 12-13 years offered a free vaccine. There was no catch-up programme for boys aged over 13, as there was for girls on the introduction of the female HPV vaccination programme.
A and B
The HPV vaccination is offered to all those in Year 8 in secondary school. The table below shows the number of Year 8 children immunised with either a first, second or third dose. It also shows the number of children in each cohort, providing the number of children that the vaccine was offered to.
Statistics on immunisations in Jersey are published annually by Public Health Intelligence in the Immunisation report. Data for 2020/2021 will be published in September 2022.
Parents/Guardians receive information about the HPV vaccinations and a consent form to complete when vaccinations are due. Should they refuse to consent then the vaccine will not be given, and the records updated on the Child Health system. However In several instances, the forms may simply not be returned, rather than the parent/guardian actively declining the immunisation.
