Request
Please provide the number of deaths for each year from 2015 to date where the cause of death is due to cardiac failure. Also provide the data for all age ranges.
Response
Cardiac failure:
Cardiac failure is synonymous with heart failure.
Heart failure in Jersey:
The mortality statistics for Jersey, are derived from information collected from the death certificate at death registration. All of the conditions mentioned on the death certificate are coded using the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10). From all of these causes an underlying cause of death is selected using ICD-10 coding rules. Cause of death coding is carried out by a specialist team at ONS (Office for National Statistics, UK) on an annual basis.
Where heart failure is the underlying cause of death an ICD-10 Code of I50 and I50.9 is used to record this.

As the numbers of heart failures in Jersey from the above-mentioned causes are small, it is not possible to provide a breakdown by age as it may lead to the identification of individuals and breach the confidentiality of their personal information. Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied to protect the privacy of individuals.
